We came across the Victory Medal tour while visiting Arras for the 100th Anniversary of Vimy Ridge. These feet stood out, standing among words of remembrance and thanks on red circles forming a poppy. The feet being the center piece, they can be perceived as soldiers feet, 36 feet that form a platoon, 36 men who fought together and lost their friends together. This sculpture spoke volumes.
Sitting on my mother's lap as a child, we would look through her photo albums, one of which stood out for me, her trip to Vimy Ridge. Ever since I learned the history of Wimy Ridge I yearned for the day I could visit the war grounds. I never thought it would be 100 years later! I had goosebumps while walking the trenches, which would have been the front lines during the war; also while down in the tunnel, just a fraction of what the men were using during the war and not nearly as gruesome. It really is something else, walking through these war grounds 100 years later.
100 years later on the craters at Vimy Ridge, the trees continue to grow. I love how this symbolizes life and even though we lost many soldiers during those gruesome days, we have still been able to move forward and live life thanks to those brave men. We will remember them!
A pink castle at night means kids (and adults) dreams came true. Spending the day celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Disney Paris was a lot of fun. Their new night show they displayed was absolutely touching! I even saw people brought to tears (not myself of course..).
Being able to see the Arc de Triomphe was incredible, but there is something about the glowing lights after dusk that makes it look even more empowering.
Our day in Paris didn't quite go as planned, but that's what makes for the best stories. We strolled through Paris and stumbled upon the Arc de Triomphe as darkness was upon us. The added affect of the vehicles and buses driving by added to an interesting perspective.
Not realizing until later, we were in Paris during Earth Hour. It was crazy busy on the streets. Everyone was anticipating the hour of darkness this city was soon to participate in. As the sun began its descend, it put a beautiful golden glow in the Eiffel Tower.
