Close up of Duomo di Milano (Milan Cathedral). We had a quick stop over on our way to Switzerland and only had time to view it from the outside. One day I hope to have a chance to view the inside.
After literally getting lost in Venice, having pizza, snacking on gelato and wandering aimlessly through the streets we found ourselves near where we started with an orange glow, letting us know the night was near.
There is a natural calm to this photo. Everyone is home from their busy day, the waters are calm and families are getting together at their dinner tables to talk about their days. Even Venice takes a night off.
In the distance sits St. Marks Basilica, the famous cathedral in Venice. The Grand Canal is looking a little empty as evening is washing over and the end of the day is near.
How many gondolas have you seen at one time? I admire the man just sitting on the ledge oblivious to what is going on behind him. He is just admiring the view.
The canals are probably my favorite part about Venice. There are so many of them! They even have alley ways as we would on the streets.
When one goes to Venice, one goes for a gondola ride. The main attraction (tourist trap if you will) was a bucket list item that got crossed off. You don't tell someone you went to Venice and didn't hop on a gondola. That is what Venice is known for!
The oldest bridge on the Grand Canal, Rialto Bridge. It was neat to not only walk over it but sail under it during our gondola ride!
Beautiful buildings line the canal with lots of options to board a boat to drift your way through this city. There is lots to see all around this gorgeous city.
Everywhere you turn you see the beautiful canals in Venice. It's so cool to see a city basically built on the water. The buildings really have an Italian feel, mix that with the water and you have yourself a beautiful photo.
Instead of an ocean view, they get canal views. The culture and way of life is completely different here and it was really cool to just dive in and walk around, exploring what this vehicle-less island has to offer. Have I mentioned the gelato is AMAZING!
*Cue Italian Music* Venice is a whole different world. You walk the streets and not have to worry about cars driving by as the transportation over there is walking or a boat. All the canals are beautiful and the streets are filled with culture. Definitely take the walk around the whole island. You can do it in less than a day.
