Oh My God! That was my reaction as I saw this happening. As I'm not in London all the time I'm not sure how common it is to see a tall ship sailing under the Tower Bridge, but would you believe there were TWO! Not only that, the night prior I watched this exact opportunity slip through my fingers when it happened while I was working.
I never imagined the English Channel being so beautiful. This is the coast of Folkestone, viewing from above. It's funny, my friend and I later were walking down along the beach, but from this view (which we saw first) we thought it was a sandy beach. We couldn't have been further from the truth, as we made our way down to a rocky beach. Still beautiful nonetheless.
Yes, it's just a pile of stones as most people say when you are planning to visit Stonehenge. But to me it is so much more, there is a whole history lesson there. They have all the history laid out really well in the museum before you go to the rocks. And if you are heading there, the walk takes longer to get out to see the rocks but its a great walk! Its awe inspiring to see, and we even had a show while we were there. It was the Summer Solstice and they had a ceremony happening within the stones.
Double Decker Across The Thames
I don't know why, but I love the idea of the Double Decker Bus. Seeing it cross my favorite bridge I just couldn't resist to capture the moment.
This was a fun little stop we sort of stumbled on after a washroom break at Starbucks. It also has a few great stories attached to it. I was the first to discover this area, as I proceeded outside a woman came up to me asking for directions (that was her first mistake). She showed me a photo of where her friend was and asked if I knew where it was, as she lost her friend. However, she only had 1% battery life left on her phone and had no idea where she was. Oh, did I mention... she barely spoke English. I felt really bad and noticing one of the taller skyscrapers to her, I tried to explain to go to that area and she should be able to find it. I kept telling her to go past the Tower Bridge, pointing in the direction she had to walk. Well, when my friends and I left to walk back across the Tower Bridge, I began walking.. in the direction I pointed for her to go, only to realize it was the other way we needed to go! To whoever you were, I certainly hope you were reunited with your friend!
I didn't get to see this until my second trip to London, I can't begin to describe my excitement as I fumbled to remove my lens cap and adjust my camera settings. It really brings the Tower Bridge into perspective having it open if front of you. Fun fact: My friends are up on top watching this happen through the glass floor as I'm taking this photo. We didn't.t realize until after.
I hate to be biased however, this is one of my favorite photos I have captured to date. There is something about London and there is something about Big Ben. This structure has stood through time.. literally! Imagine the stories it could tell! A nod to the Disney fans.. a minute before the kids were getting their bearings for Neverland!
You have to be envious of the view Big Ben takes in every night. I merely had a few hours. I highly suggest wandering around London in the hours that make London thrive. Take some time and stand on Westminster Bridge and take in the beautiful view of the London Eye, and when you decide you have admired it long enough, turn 180 degrees and you'll now have Big Ben in your cross hairs.
Hopping off the tube at Tower Hill station, walking outside; it was as if we stepped through the wardrobe to Narnia. Every borough of London is completely different. This is probably one of my favorites. I have spent lots of time in this area and if I may suggest, there is an amazing food area with Tower Bridge as your backdrop.
